Shalu has been engaged with Kat-Katha for the last many years. Last year she started coming to HeARTshala to learn stitching with a hope to leave sex work and earn through this skill. In February this year she took the bold step of leaving the trade forever and settled down in her village in Bengal along with her daughter and husband. Shalu received support in buying a sewing machine in her village. She is also engaged in regular literacy classes. Her daughter, Pooja, also studies online with Kat-Katha. She receives financial support for her thyroid and liver medications
